Alleged NPA member killed in Negros Occidental firefight

An alleged member of the New People’s Army was killed in an encounter at Cauayan town in Negros Occidental, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reported on Tuesday.

Captain Kim Apitong, officer-in-charge of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) Public Affairs Office, said the clash occurred at around 6:10 a.m. in Sitio Bajay, Barangay Caliling.

Apitong said concerned citizens informed them that there were suspected communists in their area.

Members of the Philippine Army’s 15th Infantry Battalion then proceeded to the area and encountered at least 10 suspected NPA rebels.

This led to a firefight which lasted for 15 minutes and led to the suspected rebel's death.

Seized from the scene was one M4 rifle, according to Apitong. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
