Davao Oriental school sustained cracks after magnitude 5.3 quake —MDRRMO


A school in Manay, Davao Oriental, sustained cracks following Wednesday's magnitude 5.3 earthquake, the Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (MRRMO) said Thursday.

“Meron kaming nakita na mga cracks din sa walls ng aming paaralan sa Barangay San Ignacio (We saw some cracks on the walls of our school in Barangay San Ignacio),” MDRRMO head Cesar Camingue said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

According to Camingue, the Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office has already inspected the damaged school. Only one classroom was declared off limits< he said.

Camingue also said they have not monitored any signs of possible tsunami when they checked the coastal areas of Manay following the earthquake.

He said the town has been experiencing several earthquakes in the past three days.

The last time Manay experienced a strong earthquake was in 2018, according to Camingue.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said the earthquake that hit Manay at 5:07 p.m. on Wednesday was tectonic in origin.

Its epicenter was located at 06.30°N, 127.18°E - 123 km S 35° E of Manay, Davao Oriental. The quake had a depth of 70 kilometers, the PHIVOLCS added. —KBK, GMA News
