6 killed, 2 wounded in Mountain province van accident —police

Six people died, and two others were wounded after the van they were riding plunged into a 100-meter-deep ravine in Besao, Mountain province on Thursday.

Super Radyo dzBB's Mark Makalalad reported Friday that the incident took place in Barangay Cabengan.

Quoting Cordillera Police Office spokesman Police Captain Marnie Abellanida, the report said the Tamaraw FX van's passengers were teenagers and young adults ages between 17 and 21.

An initial police investigation showed that the victims were coming from Ilocos Sur when the van they were on fell into a 100-meter-deep ravine, the report said, adding that the incident might have been caused by heavy rains that hit the area at the time of the accident.

Police said all the victims have been accounted for -- six who were declared dead on the spot, and two wounded, who were rushed to a nearby hospital.

An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing. —LBG, GMA News
