2 alleged dog meat traders arrested in Bulacan

Two suspects were arrested in Pandi, Bulacan for allegedly being involved in dog meat trading.

According to Oscar Oida’s Friday report on “24 Oras,” the suspects were nabbed during a joint rescue operation between the local police and the Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) after a tipster said dog meat was being sold in the area.

Rescued in the operation were eight dogs locked in cages.

“Depende sa weight or bigat. Minsan na sa P120 to P200/ kilo yan,” Lawyer Heidi Cag, program director of AKF, said.

(It depends on their weight. Sometimes the price ranges from P120 to P200 per kilo.)

GMA News was not able to interview the suspects but police alleged they had been long involved in the dog meat trade.

“Ito na ‘yung ikinabubuhay nila nang matagal at doon na rin sila nag-settle ng kanilang business,” Lt. Col. Alex Apolonio, Pandi PNP Chief, said.

(This has been their livelihood for quite a while and they are pretty much settled in their business.)

“Hindi po sila aware sa batas kaya akala nila normal lang na pwede gawin ‘yung manghuli ng aso, magkatay… lututin para sa ulam,” he added.

(They’re not aware of the law that’s why they thought it was normal and the capturing, slaughtering, and cooking of dogs was allowed.)

The suspect will face charges for violating the Animal Welfare Act. — Sundy Mae Locus/DVM, GMA News
