Suspect nabbed after Cebu senior found hacked to death

Police arrested a suspect who allegedly robbed and hacked to death a senior citizen in San Fernando, Cebu.

According to Katrina Son’s “24 Oras Weekend” report on Saturday, the suspect was arrested on Friday afternoon after two witnesses identified him to the authorities.

The San Fernando Police and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office located the body of the 67-years-old victim only 50 meters away from his house.

The authorities said they received a call on Thursday afternoon that the victim fell from a cliff.

However, they doubted that the victim accidentally died from a fall.

“May tumawag na meron daw nahulog ng bangin. Pero nang dumating na ang tropa namin, nakita nila na parang tinaga ang biktima na tinamaan ang kanyang leeg,” Police Major Efren Diaz Jr., chief of the San Fernando Police Station, said.

(Someone called to report that the victim had fallen off a cliff. But when the police arrived, they saw that the victim seemed to have hacking wounds on his neck.)

Aside from allegedly killing the senior citizen, police said the suspect may have also robbed the victim since it was reported that the senior was a money lender.

The victim’s bag was not found in the crime scene.

“Tinitingnan natin ang anggulo na baka may nanghiram ng pera sa kanya na hindi pa nakapagbayad,” Diaz said.

(We are looking at the angle that the suspect might have lent someone some money that has not been paid back.)

The suspect also tried to escape, however, someone saw that he immediately went to his house after the crime.

The suspect has not given any statement. — Richa Allyssa Noriega/DVM, GMA News
