Cordova's floating, fixed cottages to shut down due to several violations

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia on Wednesday ordered a stop to the operation of more than a hundred floating and fixed cottages in Cordova town on the 29th of August 2022 due to various violations.

According to a report on GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak and Super Radyo Cebu on the "State of the Nation," the Region 7 Environmental Management Bureau found high coliform levels taken from water samples in the area.

From the acceptable level of below 100, results showed that the level of coliform bacteria in the area reached 2,400.

With the test result, the area has been declared unfit for recreational activities. Many of the cottages do not have toilets while some cottages do not have business permits.

Some motor banca, meanwhile, that transport clients to the cottages do not have franchises.

The provincial government met with the cottage owners and operators, who said they are willing to follow the directive issued by Governor Garcia.

“You have fair warning, 10 days are left. On August 29, the order will be implemented stopping the operations,” Garcia said. -- Sherylin Untalan/BAP, GMA News
