DPWH: 2 roads closed in CAR due to Henry, Gardo
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) closed two roads in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) on Friday following the onslaught of tropical cyclones Gardo and Henry.
In an advisory, the DPWH Bureau of Maintenance said Kennon Road and the Apayao - Ilocos Norte Road in Madatag, Kabugao will be closed to traffic starting at 12 noon on September 2.
The DPWH said Kennon Road was closed to ensure public safety due to the threat of slope collapse in the area while the Apayao - Ilocos Norte Road was currently impassable due to landslides.
Motorists heading to Baguio City may take alternative routes such as the Marcos Highway, Baguio - Bauang Road, or the Asin - Nangalisan - San Pascual Road.
The DPWH said it reactivated its quick response teams to continue to monitor the status of other national road sections in CAR and Cagayan Valley that may be affected by the weather disturbance.
Henry entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday afternoon, becoming the second active tropical cyclone within the area of responsibility along with Gardo.
Gardo weakened into a low pressure area on Thursday while Henry was downgraded to a typhoon from a super typhoon on Friday.
PAGASA said that of 3 p.m. on Friday, the center of Henry was last seen 360 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.
It was moving northwestward at 10 kilometers per hour and has maximum sustained winds of 155 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 190 kph. —NB, GMA News
