2 nabbed for allegedly using BFP official’s name to scam people

The Philippine National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has arrested two men in Rodriguez, Rizal, for allegedly pretending to be connected with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to solicit money from people.

According to Emil Sumangil's report on "24 Oras," the two used BFP Regional 3 Director, Fire Superintendent Roy Aguto's name in their scam.

The suspects are facing estafa charges. According to authorities, the two were previously jailed for allegedly using former President Rodrigo Duterte's name to scam people, but were able to make bail.

Authorities believe they still have an accomplice who instructs them on who to send the solicitation letters.

The police reminded the public to verify the details in solicitation letters to prevent scams.

Moreover, Augto said, “Wala kayong dapat babayaran sa BFP, walang lagay, walang palakasan. Ang sa akin lang is ilagay niyo lang sa tama, wala kayong problema." — Sherylin Untalan/BM, GMA News
