Military dismantles Maute group’s training, bomb-making site in Lanao del Sur

A suspected training camp and a bomb-making site of the remaining members of the Maute group has been dismantled in Marogong, Lanao del Sur, the Joint Task Force - Central said.

According to a report of James Agustin on GMA News’ Unang Balita on Monday, several weapons were seized during the operation.

The military is guarding the exit areas of the town as they go after around 40 remaining members of the Maute group.

In August, an alleged member of the group and his two cohorts were arrested in Marantak, Lanao del Sur.

The Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) identified the suspects as Mastura Disomala, 43; Samen Mamasao, 23; and Moca Giambal, 25.

According to the CIDG, Disomala is a former barangay chairman allegedly maintaining private armed groups linked to Daulah Islamiyah-Maute Group.

In October 2017, then-President Rodrigo Duterte declared that Marawi City has been freed from the Islamic State-inspired Maute group after a five-month siege, which resulted in over 1,000 deaths. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
