NDRRMC: Death toll due to shear line floods, rains reach 46


The reported death toll due to shear line rains has increased to 46, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Friday night.

At least 24 fatalities were reported in Region 10, six fatalities in Region 5, four each in Regions 8, 9, and 10, three deaths in Caraga, and one death in Mimaropa, based on the NDRRMC’s 6 p.m. report.

The NDRRMC said only 14 deaths were validated, while 32 fatalities are still being validated.

The agency said at least 12 individuals were injured, while 28 persons are still missing.

A total of 133,344 families or 517,845 persons were affected, according to the NDRRMC.

Of which, 4,604 families or 15,800 persons were served inside 151 evacuation centers, and 10,925 families or 41,007 persons were served outside evacuation centers, it said.

It also reported a total of 4,522 damaged houses in Mimaropa, Regions 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, Caraga, and BARMM.

The NDRRMC said the cost of agricultural damage climbed to P232,731,657, while the damage to infrastructure amounted to P1,130,405,000.

It said that a total of 22 cities or municipalities were declared under a state of calamity.

Meanwhile, at least P51,406,854 assistance was provided to Mimaropa, Regions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and Caraga.

Cloudy skies and rain would prevail over parts of Northern and Central Luzon due to a shear line and the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan, weather bureau PAGASA said in a Friday-4 p.m. forecast.

Cagayan and Isabela would experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line.

Flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains may occur in these areas, the weather bureau warned. —NB, GMA Integrated News
