Father of abducted Cebu activist fearing for family's safety

The father of Dyan Gumanao, one of the two activists who were allegedly abducted in Cebu City, on Wednesday said he is fearing for the safety of his family.

“Talaga, sir, oo. Feeling insecured kami sa ngayon dahil sa nangyari sa anak [ko],” Danilo Gumanao said in an interview on Unang Balita when asked if he is fearing for their safety.

(Yes, sir. We are feeling insecure because of what happened to my daughter.)

On January 10, Dyan and her partner Armand Dayoha returned from a vacation in Mindanao when they were allegedly forced to board a van in Pier 6, Cebu City. They were found five days later in Carmen town, some 41 kilometers from Cebu City.

Gumanao said Dyan and Dayoha remain in a “state of trauma” days after the incident. He said the two were “interrogated and interviewed” while Dyan was made to face an electric fan for almost four hours when she refused to answer their questions.

“Ini-interrogate sila, ini-interview sila. Si Dayan nga may isang beses na hindi siya nag-cooperate, hindi sinagot ‘yung mga katanungan nila, pinapaharap siya sa electric fan na malakas, naka-on ‘yung electric fan, halos apat na oras,” Gumanao said.

(They were interrogated and interviewed. One time Dayan did not cooperate, she didn’t answer their questions, and she was made to face an electric fan on high setting for almost four hours.)

Gumanao said Dyan has also been red-tagged.

Meanwhile, he said that their family believes authorities have yet to truly achieve something in the case.

“Last Friday, dumunog kami sa police headquarters, pina-blotter namin ito, tapos nanghingi kami ng tulong, assistance sa kanila na tulungan kami na hanapin ang aming nawalang anak,” he said.

(Last Friday, we went to the police headquarters and we had this blottered, and then we asked for assistance in looking for our missing children.)

“Sabi nila hindi pa nila agad-agad matugunan ito dahil busy sila sa Sinulog. Siguro pagkatapos ng Sinulog gawa sila ng mga aksyon,” he added.

(They said they can’t address this yet because they are still busy with Sinulog. Maybe after Sinulog they can take action.)

For his part, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has said that the National Bureau of Investigation will look into the abductions.  —KBK, GMA Integrated News
