DepEd: At least 38 schools sustain damage due to earthquake in Davao de Oro
At least 38 schools have sustained damage after a magnitude 6 earthquake struck New Bataan, Davao de Oro, on Wednesday, the Department of Education said Saturday.
Among the affected schools were Sonlon National High School in Asuncion, Davao del Norte; Alejal Elementary School in Carmen, Davao del Norte; Toril Elementary School in the Island Garden City of Samal; and Montevista National High School in Davao de Oro, according to Luisito Santos’ Super Radyo dzBB report.
The earthquake occurred on Wednesday night, with the epicenter traced to 12 kilometers northeast of New Bataan.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded 882 aftershocks as of 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Of these aftershocks, PHIVOLCS said only two were felt, with magnitudes ranging from 1.5 to 3.6.
At least 16 people were injured as a result of the earthquake, data from the Office of Civil Defense showed on Friday. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
