Wild birds rescued from vloggers in South Cotabato
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region XII personnel rescued different species of birds in South Cotabato.
The birds were allegedly captured so these can be featured by vloggers on their social media accounts.
According to Cedric Castillo's report on "24 Oras," the authorities found a crested goshawk and some short-billed brown doves caged inside a house in Barangay Danlag, Tampakan in South Cotabato.
The birds were immediately rescued following reports that several vloggers were catching them to feature them on their social media accounts.
However, the suspects were no longer in the area when the DENR operatives arrived.
They will face charges for violating the Republic Act 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, which prohibits the collection, hunting, and possession of wildlife animals.
DENR also appealed to the public to refrain from capturing the wildlife species and to let them live freely in their natural habitat. -- Sherylin Untalan/BAP, GMA Integrated News
