At least 27 infrastructures damaged after Masbate quake — CDRRMO


At least 27 infrastructures sustained minor damage due to the magnitude 6.0 earthquake that hit Masbate City on Thursday, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) said Friday.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB, CDRRMO head Isaias Bigol Jr. said authorities inspected 57 critical structures as of 5 p.m. on Thursday.

“Meron po tayong more or less 27 po, if I’m not mistaken, na critical infrastructures na may minor damage (We have more or less 27 critical infrastructures with minor damage),” he said.

The affected infrastructures have cracked walls and floors as well as shattered windows, according to Bigol.

Some houses were also slightly damaged due to the earthquake, he added.

Bigol said some establishments in tourist spot Buntod Reef Marine Sanctuary sustained cracks on their beams.

He said class and work schedules are still suspended in the city Friday.

The magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred southwest of Batuan at 2:10 a.m. on Thursday, PHIVOLCS said. The quake was tectonic in origin with a depth of 10 kilometers.

As of Thursday,  at least 163 aftershocks have been recorded in Masbate province.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
