PCG seizes over P2M worth of smuggled cigarettes in Dipolog


More than P2 million worth of smuggled cigarettes on board a cargo van were intercepted by agents of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte. 

In a statement on Tuesday, the PCG said the undocumented cigarettes arrived at the Galas Feeder Port on Monday, February 20. They were hidden under 32 sacks of rice bran and have a total estimated value of P2.1 million. 

The seized goods consist of seven master cases and 49 reams of Berlin Red, five master cases and 44 reams of 2m Red, three master cases of 2m Black, 10 master cases of Canon, 18 master cases and 47 reams of Fort, as well as 48 reams and 15 master cases of Champion. 

The PCG said the contrabands were turned over to the Bureau of Customs for the filing of charges in violation of Republic Act 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. — Sundy Locus/VBL, GMA Integrated News
