New Capiz archbishop to be installed in May after two-year vacancy
Baguio City Bishop Victor Bendico is set to be installed as the new Archbishop of Capiz in May, after the archdiocese has been without a bishop for nearly two years.
According to Sam Nielsen's report on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said that Bendico will be installed on May 3, succeeding Cardinal Jose Advincula, who was appointed archbishop of Manila in March 2021.
Bendico, 63, was appointed by Pope Francis to the post on March 3. He was ordained priest for the Capiz archdiocese in April 1984, and ordained to the Baguio episcopate in January 2017.
He will become the fourth archbishop of Capiz, which has been governed by Monsignor Cyril Villareal as administrator while it was “sede vacante” or without a bishop.
Bendico was also the apostolic administrator of the Diocese of San Fernando in La Union from 2017 to 2018, and currently serves as the chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Liturgy of the CBCP. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
