Magnitude 5.6 quake strikes off Isabela


A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck off the coast of Isabela on Sunday afternoon, Phivolcs said.

According to the monitoring agency, the quake struck at a depth of 55 kilometers at 5:19 p.m., its epicenter located 17.55°N, 122.29°E - 018 km N 17° E of Maconacon town.

 

 

Intensity 5 was reported in Maconacon, Isabela; Intensity 4 in Delfin Albano in Isabela, Tuguegarao City, Penablanca, and Enrile in Cagayan; and Intensity 3 in Luna, Flora, and Santa Marcela in Apayao, Cabagan, San Pablo, and Santa Maria in Isabela.

Intensity 2 was reported in Jones, Angadanan, San Isidro, Dinapigue, Cordon, Ramon, San Manuel, San Mateo, and Cauayan in Isabela, and Piddig and san Nicolas in Ilocos Norte, and Banayoyo in Ilocos Sur.

Aftershocks are likely, but damage as a result of the quake is not expected, Phivolcs added.

At least 20 aftershocks were recorded, ranging from magnitude 1.7 to 3.9, the latest of which was magnitude 1.8 at 9:51 p.m. — with Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/ BM, GMA Integrated News
