Children who fell ill in Dipolog shared a poisonous toad

The five children who fell ill in Dipolog City didn't partake of harmless frogs but probably a cane toad.

According to Jonathan Andal's report on "24 Oras", the mother of the children is asking for help.

Her youngest child, a five-year-old, has died after eating the toad.

"‘Yung findings din ng doctor is suspected din na cane toad poisoning,” said epidemiology surveillance officer Sheridan Rose Bagarinao of the Dipolog City Health Office.

While frogs are considered exotic food in many parts of the country, toads are not edible.

A frog's skin is smooth while a toad's is rough because of poison glands.

“Sana tulungan po ako, maawa sa akin kasi lahat ng anak ko, nakakain ng palaka,” the children's mother Lordeliza Ruiz said. —NB, GMA Integrated News
