Several Bacolod students fall ill after 'exposure' to colored smoke bomb
At least 28 students in Bacolod City fell ill after their alleged exposure to colored smoke bomb that was used in a school activity, according to the report of Aileen Pedroso of GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas on "Saksi."
Some of the students did not feel well, some fainted while five were brought to the hospital for treatment.
The cause, according to the report, was the colored smoke bomb used in their practical exam inside the Bacolod City College activity center.
"A graded activity for their final term requirements and may isang group of students na nagpa-surprise effect. Kinausap ko na itong grupo ng mga estudyante. Of course, umiyak sila at kinabahan," said Johanna Ann Bayoneta, College administrator.
According to the school, the "surprise effect" was not required in the presentation.
Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office head, Dr. Anna Marie Pornan, said it is possible that the smoke bomb can cause abdominal pain, dizziness, or nausea and respiratory illness.
The colored smoke bomb was turned over to the police for inspection.
