DA Bicol advises farmers to move animals in safer areas amid Mayon activities

The Department of Agriculture's Regional Field Office V has advised farmers to place their animals in safer areas amid Mayon Volcano's current activities.

According to the Presidential Communications Office on Friday, the regional office also asked local farmers to secure all their farm equipment and machinery.

An inventory of the livestock population inside the six-kilometer permanent danger zone is being prepared by authorities, the PCO said.

The DA regional office has already prepositioned hauling trucks at Tabaco City and Camalig, Albay, and updated its seed reserves, also according to the PCO.

Mayon Volcano's alert level was raised from 2 to 3 on Thursday, signifying "increased tendency towards a hazardous eruption."

Alert Level 3 means that Mayon "is exhibiting magmatic eruption of a summit lava dome, with increased chances of lava flow and hazardous PDCs (pyroclastic density currents) affecting the upper to middle slopes of the volcano and of potential explosive activity within weeks or even days."

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. guaranteed that the government is ready to assist affected residents if the situation of the Mayon Volcano worsens. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA Integrated News
