Residents from Albay take shelter in GMA Kapuso Foundation's donated classrooms
Amid Mayon Volcano's unrest, evacuees from Camalig, Albay took shelter in Bariw Elementary School, which received classrooms from the GMA Kapuso Foundation back in 2007.
According to a report on "24 Oras," Wednesday, the Kapuso classrooms are now being utilized not only for educating children but also for providing temporary shelter for families affected by calamities.
"Well-ventilated tapos mayroon siyang mga CRs na talaga naman magagamit ng mga evacuees," school principal Leo Ontañez said.
Quinog Nebrija, a family member of some of the evacuees, can't help but look back on the year 1968, when his father passed away due to the volcano's eruption.
"'Yung mga magulang ko nasa baba nag-evacuate na, andoon kami sa palayan, nagha-harvest kami ng palay. Tapos may abiso na sa amin na patay na 'yung magulang ko," he said.
Despite the warnings raised due to Mayon's unrest, Quinog has no choice but to stay and watch over his crops and animals, as these are his family's source of income.
His family members, however, are among those who took shelter in the Kapuso classrooms.
The GMA Kapuso Foundation also distributed food packs, hygiene kits, and KN95 masks for the evacuees.
For those who are interested to help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
