Magnitude 5.6 quake strikes northwest of Cagayan Province island


A magnitude 5.6 quake struck northwest of Cagayan Province's Dalupiri Island on Saturday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

According to PHIVOLCS’ earthquake bulletin, the tectonic quake struck at 6:15 p.m. and had a 53-kilometer depth of focus.

The quake was felt at an Intensity IV in Burgos, Ilocos Norte and in Calayan, Cagayan.

It was at an Intensity III in Pagudpud,  Ilocos Norte; and Intensity II in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

Meanwhile, the quake was measured at an Instrumental Intensity IV in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; and Intensity III in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte and Aparri, Cagayan.

It was measured at an Instrumental Intensity II in Batac City, Ilocos Norte; and Gonzaga and Peñablanca in Cagayan.

It measured an Instrumental Intensity I in Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

While no damage was expected from the quake, aftershocks were likely. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
