JSCC launches eco-tourism justice zone in Tagaytay

The Justice Sector Coordinating Council (JSCC) on Wednesday launched the Tagaytay City Justice Zone, according to the Supreme Court (SC).

In a tweet, the high court said this is a specialty justice zone that will focus on economic development and tourism.

This is the 11th justice zone to be launched in the country and the fourth zone to be inaugurated under Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo.

Other justice zones are located in Quezon City, Cebu City, Davao City, Angeles City, Bacolod City, Naga City, Calamba City, Balanga City, Baguio City, and Zamboanga City.

SC Justice Maria Filomena Singh, who attended the event, said the rule of law must be the economy’s anchor for it to flourish.

"And we can only realize that with efficient, responsive, real-time justice delivery," she was quoted as saying.

Also in attendance were Interior Undersecretary Lord Villanueva, Justice Undersecretary Raul Vasquez, Senator Francis Tolentino, and Tagaytay Mayor Abraham Tolentino.

The SC said that the establishment of justice zones adheres to the JSCC’s objective of swift and fair administration of the criminal justice system.

The JSCC is composed of the SC, the Department of Justice, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government. —Joahna Lei Casilao/VBL, GMA Integrated News
