P6M worth of mosquito coils seized in Bulacan raids

At least P6 million worth of unregistered mosquito coils and machines were confiscated in two buy-bust operations by the police and the Food and Drug Administration in Pandi and Marilao, Bulacan on Thursday.

According to a report on "24 Oras" by John Consulta, the raids were a result of test buys conducted in Marilao that uncovered unregistered mosquito coils bearing a Chinese brand.

Three Chinese nationals and a Filipino were arrested in the Pandi operation.  They will face charges for violating the FDA Act and the Consumer Act.

According to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, unregistered mosquito coils are dangerous to public health as the contents of the product did not pass the safety standards.

“Lalo na sa probinsya, ang mind setting diyan is bibili lang ng katol, hindi alam na 'yun pala ay hindi awtorisadong produkto. So, hindi natin alam. Baka masinghot ng mga tao, masinghot ng mga bumili, lalo ng mga bata. Hindi natin alam ang epekto nito sa kalusugan ng bawa't isa." CIDG Region 3 chief Police Colonel Jess Mendez said.

The FDA in 2022 released an advisory against the sale and use of Wawang mosquito coil as the product did not undergo agency's test.
