Person of interest ‘matched description by victim’ in UP attempted rape

The Quezon City Police District is focusing its investigation on one of the ten persons of interest in the attempted rape of a UP Diliman student recently.

According to a report on "24 Oras," the person of interest matched the body type and clothing as described by the victim and a witness.

He also appeared to have wounds on his arms and lower body.

The person of interest has reportedly said that he was nowhere near the scene of the crime.

Ten persons of interest have been considered by the QCPD on the sexual assault case that happened inside the UP Diliman Campus on July 1.

The QCPD said it would continue its investigation and analysis of CCTV footage.

Police earlier said it was looking at 10 persons of interest in the case.

Persons of interest

“They have around 10 people na persons of interest. 'Yung iba doon ay loob ng UP at yung iba ay sa labas ng UP,” QCPD chief Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III said in a press conference.

The victim told police that on July 1 at 11 p.m. she was walking on Ylanan Street towards Commonwealth Avenue when the suspect approached and pushed her down on the side of the road.

He was armed with a blade, according to the victim.

Assailant fled

As the victim struggled, the sound of approaching people caused the assailant to flee.

Authorities have already reviewed some CCTV footage along the area that may help identify the perpetrator.

UP Diliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo Vistan II earlier said that the security in the area has already been heightened after the incident.

“The UPD administration has been working with police authorities for the immediate apprehension of the suspect and closely coordinating with the survivor to provide all necessary assistance,” UP Diliman Chancellor said.

“Everyone is reminded to stay vigilant and report anything suspicious to the UPD Police,” it added. —Jiselle Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
