Carmona, Cavite cityhood wins in plebiscite

An overwhelming majority of voters in Carmona, Cavite, backed the town's transition to cityhood in a plebiscite held on Saturday.

Results released by the Commission on Elections showed 30,363 out of 31,632 voters, or around 96%, supported the ratification of Republic Act 11938, or the law converting Carmona into a component city of Cavite province.

A total of 1,016 individuals voted against the measure.

The voter turnout was 53.9%. Carmona has 58,691 registered voters.
