Rains, flooding reported in several Luzon areas
Flooding was reported in several Luzon areas on Sunday amid the inclement weather and scattered rain showers.
In Bulacan's Meycauayan City, Barangay Salusoy residents had to deal with calf-high flooding.
Aside from motorcyclists having second thoughts about crossing flooded streets, locals had to deal with flood waters entering their homes.
“Sa loob ng bahay namin, doon mas malaki kasi malalim ung loob namin," said resident Pacita Lapeña in Jamie Santos' Sunday 24 Oras Weekend report.
Lapeña added that the flooding inside her home was knee-high.
In the Meycauayan communities of Barangay Bayugo and Barangay Longos, streets had turned into rivers.
Flooding was also reported in Bocaue, where motorcyclists resorted to hiring a "habal-habal" to ferry their motorcycles across water-logged streets.
Habal-habal drivers offered the service for P50.
Pangasinan
In Pangasinan, GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon's Russel Simorio reported that 200 families or 800 individuals were evacuated due to the flooding.
A hanging bridge in Agno town was nearly impassable as the local river burst its banks.
The streets in Sual town were similarly flooded, as were 17 barangays in Bani.
More than 50 families took refuge in evacuation centers.
Authorities came to the aid of Alaminos City locals who were caught in the flooding, while Dagupan City residents were unable to avoid rising waters.
As the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office was trying to determine if the flooding was due to the rain or the high tide, the CDRRMO was monitoring the Pantal River.
"Nasa normal pa naman Ang Pantal River, kaya ang mino-monitor natin ay ang Santa Barbara, Ang Sinocalan River. Kapag umulan kasi, sa bundok dito ang bagsak sa atin," said Dagupan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Ronald de Guzman.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office was likewise keeping a close watch on the situation, with rescue equipment at the ready
Nevertheless, all roads in Pangasinan were still passable.
Meanwhile, a landslide was reported on the road connecting Bokod, Benguet with Nueva Vizcaya. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
