Cotabato Airport critical runway repairs done, flights resume
Flight operations at the Cotabato Airport in Maguindanao resumed on Saturday, August 19, after critical repair works on the runway were done, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.
The airport now accommodates flights from 7 a.m. to 11:59 a.m.
Repair work will continue for the rest of the day until 100% completion, the DOTr said.
"Once completed, flights can be operated during the normal airport operating hours," it added.
Asphalt overlay works were partially completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways and its contractor on August 17, allowing the airport to be ready for commercial flights on Saturday, the DOTr said.
The repair work cost P340.55 million, it added.
Flights were prohibited by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines on June 21 to make way for the repair work for Runway 28.
The airport, located in Barangay Awang in the municipality of Datu Odin Sinsuat, serves Cotabato City and nearby municipalities. —KG, GMA Integrated News
