Student falls into spillway in Montalban, found a day later in San Mateo

A 27-year-old criminology student died after his motorcycle fell into the spillway he was crossing around 1 a.m. over the weekend in Montalban, Rizal.

According to Emil Sumangil's report on "24 Oras," John Paul Vibal was going to fetch his girlfriend from work in the wee hours of Sunday when the accident happened.

After he didn't show up, Vibal's partner went to the spillway to ask around. She was told that a motorcycle had fallen into the river.

Vibal's motorcycle was first found during the day. His body was found more than 24 hours later in San Mateo town.

“Paigtingin lang ng bawat barangay magkabilang panig yung pagbabantay, lalo pag malalim ang tubig na dapat wala talagang sasakyan dumaan lalo na pag light vehicle o motor,” Montalban Vice Mayor Edgardo Sison said.

“Ang sangguniang bayan po sa pangunguna ko po ay maaring magpasa ng ordinansa na talagang totally pagbawalan na po dito yung motor o mga single na motor na dumaan dito kasi pangkalimitan sila ang nadidisgrasya,” he added. —Jiselle Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
