2 nabbed in connection with Taal barangay captain’s killing

Police nabbed two alleged accomplices of the killers of a barangay captain in Taal, Batangas, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday.

“Meron na po silang nahuling dalawa na accomplice dahil after po mangyari ang incident nakapag-conduct po sila ng follow-up operation and hot pursuit,” PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo told reporters.

(Two accomplices were captured because after the incident, the police conducted follow-up and hot pursuit operations.)

On Tuesday, the barangay official was sitting in a resting area in front of a barangay hall when the killers drove up on a motorcycle at 7:20 a.m. and shot him with a .45-caliber pistol. They then fled in the direction of Sta. Teresita, Batangas.

Fajardo said authorities used CCTV footage to track the motorcycle, and found it along with the clothes and helmets used by the perpetrators.

The police also found and arrested two persons in the area who were allegedly keeping the motorcycle and the other items.

Fajardo said the police have filed a complaint against the two for allegedly being accomplices the crime.

The slain barangay captain was about to run for a second term in next month's barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, according to the police. — BM, GMA Integrated News
