State of calamity declared in 2 Oriental Mindoro towns due to ASF

A state of calamity has been declared in the municipalities of Roxas and Mansalay in Oriental Mindoro due to confirmed cases of African swine fever, Governor Humerlito "Bonz" Dolor said Monday.

In his letter to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan requesting the state of calamity,  Dolor said that latest tests from the Provincial Veterinarian's Office confirmed the presence of the contagious viral disease—which does not affect humans but can have a serious effect on pig populations—in some hogs in Barangays Bagumbayan and Dangay in Roxas. There have also been reported hog deaths in Mansalay.

Dolor said he has signed an executive order banning pork or pork products from leaving either town.

"Isinagawa natin ang mga hakbang na ito upang mapabilis ang mga aksyon upang hindi na kumalat ang ASF sa ibang bahagi ng lalawigan," he said.
