1 dead in Laguna motorcycle pile-up, LTO chief orders probe

Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Assistant Secretary Attorney Vigor Mendoza II has ordered a probe into a motorcycle pile-up that led to the death of one person in Santa Rosa, Laguna last Sunday.

In a statement Tuesday, LTO said the incident involved a bicycle and four motorcycles, which were all driven by riders who were not wearing helmets.

“I already ordered the Regional Director of LTO Region IV-A to conduct an investigation into the incident which includes the issuance of Show Cause Order against those involved,” Mendoza said.

According to the report, one of the motorcycles crashed into the motorcycle in front of it.

The crash caused a third motorcycle to run over the back rider of one of the previous motorcycles, who later died at the Santa Rosa Community Hospital.

The third motorcycle, along with a fourth motorcycle, hit a passing bicycle on the opposite side of the road.

Mendoza said that all four motorcycle riders will be investigated for violating Republic Act 10054, which mandates the wearing of helmets.

"Ginawa ang batas na ito para sa kaligtasan ng mga motorcycle riders at pati na rin ang kanilang angkas. Walang dahilan para hindi ito sundin dahil ang tinitiyak natin dito ay ang kaligtasan ng mga nagmo-motorsiklo,” he said.—Jiselle Anne Casucian/AOL, GMA Integrated News
