COMPUTERIZED SKETCH RELEASED

Police obtain CCTV footage, witnesses' testimonies in Misamis Occidental radio anchor killing

A copy of CCTV footage and testimonies of witnesses have been obtained for the investigation into the killing of a radio anchor in Calamba, Misamis Occidental, the police said Monday.

Interviewed on GMA Integrate News’ Unang Balita, Police Regional Office 10 (PRO 10) spokesperson Police Major Joann Navarro said these information will be used to help identify the perpetrators.

“Sa ngayon po, nakakuha na rin po tayo ng CCTV footage sa nasabing insidente (Right now, we already obtained CCTV footage of the said incident),” Navarro said.

“Kahapon po actually, nakakuha na tayo ng testimonya ng mga witness at nakikipag-uganayan na rin po iyong ating kapulisan ng Misamis Occidental lalo-lalong na ang ating SITG sa mga kamag-anak,” she added.

(Actually yesterday, we gathered testimonies from the witnesses and the Misamis Occidental Police especially the SITG has coordinated with the families and relatives of the victim.)

According to Navarro, the police were able to get information from the witnesses but they cannot reveal them right now as it may compromise the investigation.

The persons of interest behind the killing of Juan Jumalon or “Johnny Walker” of 94.7 Calamba Gold FM are still being identified, she said.

All possible angles in the killing are being considered, she added.

Computerized sketch

The Philippine National Police (PNP), meanwhile, released a computerized sketch of one of the suspects in the killing.

According to the PNP, the suspect in the sketch was the one who stayed at the gate.

Based on the description released by the police, the suspect stands around 5 feet and 5 to 6 inches and weighs around 70 kilograms with a medium build and fair complexion.

The suspect, who is around 40 years old, was wearing a red cap, green shirt, and black shorts during the time of the killing, the PNP said.

Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, chairperson of the Senate committee on public order, urged the police to resolve the case “soonest possible time.”

“Regardless of the real motive of the crime, people would immediately assume it to be work-related and the first group of people that we don't want to be discouraged from doing their job is the media,” Dela Rosa said.

Shot during live broadcast

On Sunday morning, Jumalon was killed by an unidentified gunman while he was doing a live broadcast at his residence in Calamba, Misamis Occidental.

An initial information from the Philippine National Police showed that the shooting incident occurred at 5:35 a.m. while Jumalon was in the middle of his radio program on 94.7 Calamba Gold FM.

The suspect went to Jumalon’s residence pretending to have an important announcement aired on the said radio station but suddenly drew his firearm and shot the radio anchor, hitting his lower lip towards the back portion of his head.

Jumalon was rushed to the Calamba District Hospital by his family but was pronounced dead on arrival by the duty physician.

The Police Regional Office 10 said Sunday it will create a special investigation task group (SITG) to probe the fatal shooting. — RSJ/KBK, GMA Integrated News
