British bareknuckle-fighter, American nabbed in Cebu for sex crimes

A British "bare-knuckle fighter" and an American, who are both wanted in their respective countries for sex crimes, have been arrested by the Bureau of Immigration in Cebu.

According to John Consulta's report on ":24 Oras," Derek Gordon Heggie was nabbed at his residence in Cebu. He is wanted in the United Kingdom for the abuse of an 11-year-old and the rape of his partner.

“Isa siyang MMA Fighter at underground bare-knuckle fighter. Sa mga video na nakita namin, nag-oorganize siya or sumasama siya sa underground fights sa UK at dito sa Pilipinas," BI Fugitive Search Unit Chief Rendel Sy said.

"Sinasabing ito ang source of income niya dahil inuupload niya ito sa Youtube,” he added.

(He's a mixed-martial arts fighter and underground bare-knuckle fighter. Based on the videos we saw, he organizes or joins underground fights in the UK and here in the Philippines.

American John Thomas Minor was also arrested in Cebu in connection with the abuse of two minors in the US.

“Alam na niya na lalabas ang warrant niya kaya pumunta na siya dito sa Pilipinas para dito magtago," Sy said.

"They are considered as a danger to our women and children kaya naglabas agad ang BI ng mission order para hulihin ang dalawang ito,” he added.

(He knew that the warrant for his arrest would soon be released. That's why he came here to the Philippines to hide. The BI immediately came out with a mission order for the arrest of these two because they are considered a danger to our women and children.)

Heggie and Minor are now under BI custody at the detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa and are now awaiting deportation proceedings. —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
