Cebu bakers’ group to meet with DTI over bread prices

CEBU CITY, Philippines - The Department of Trade and Industry appealed Friday to the Cebu bakers’ association to do everything to cushion consumers of the impact of high prices of flour. DTI officials and members of the Cebu Baker’s Association are set to meeting to discuss on problem of rising prices of flour, GMA Network’s Balitang Bisdak reported Friday. Price of flour has gone up to P950 per bag form P625 in 2007. According to traders, there was a steep increase in the prices of wheat, the main ingredient in making flour, which was the main reason for the adjustment in the prices of bread and other flour-based products. Flour is 95 percent wheat, which is imported, and 5 percent other ingredients. - GMANews.TV
