Arson suspect in Romblon rescued after jumping overboard from passenger ship

An arson suspect in Romblon proved fire and water do not mix after he jumped overboard from a passenger ship on Tuesday in an unsuccessful escape attempt.

A social media post by the Philippine Coast Guard said PCG Seaman First Class (SN1) John Laurence Lotec spotted 44-year-old suspect “Mr. Meynard” after he jump overboard from a passenger vessel in Ambulong Port in Sibuyan Island, Romblon.

Upon investigation, Meynard was revealed to have an ongoing case of destructive arson and was set to be transferred to Romblon, Romblon. He was able to elude his escorts long enough to jump from the ship that was transporting them.

When it became apparent that Meynard required rescue in the waters off Ambulong, he was immediately picked up by Lotec and a local policeman who jumped in after him with a flotation device. The suspect was eventually turned over to Magdiwang Police where he is now in custody.—RF, GMA Integrated News
