PCG assists fisherman found paddling to shore in Romblon


The Philippine Coast Guard was able to assist a motorbanca stranded at sea in Romblon on Tuesday.

According to a statement, Coast Guard Station Aklan called Coast Guard Sub Station (CGSS) Carabao Island regarding distressed motorbanca Aldrich Mae, which encountered engine trouble near Carabao Island, Romblon.

An immediate search and rescue operation was conducted near the last reported location of the vessel, which had 29-year-old fisherman Aldrin Forteza on board.

Forteza said that the engine suddenly stopped in the middle of his venture and would not start after multiple attempts.

The team was able to find Forteza paddling towards the shoreline of Barangay Busay, San Jose, Carabao Island and assisted by towing his motorbanca along.

CGSS Carabao Island provided temporary shelter to Forteza, who was reportedly in good condition. — Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/BM, GMA Integrated News
