First of 2 skywalks in Cebu City demolished; roads closed

Emergency total road closure has been implemented for the demolition of the first of two skywalks along Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City, in line with the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project.

Vehicular traffic is closed on Fuente Osmeña to Arlington Pond Street, and vehicles from B. Rodriguez to Colon Street are directed to pass through Ramos Street.

Engr. Jomar Doque, focal person of BRT Phase 1 project, said the demolition of two skywalks will take 18 days.

Inconvenience to the public was felt by commuters who had to walk from the portion of certain road sections to their workplaces at the vicinity of Fuente Osmeña.

Doque apologized for the inconvenience and vowed to have the clearing completed on the first skywalk as scheduled on Sunday, February 18, 2024.

The BRT project was set completed last December 2023, but the process in tearing down the two skywalks has delayed the project. —GMA Regional TV
