Driver dies after being pinned inside water tanker in Calinog, Iloilo
A driver died as he was pinned inside the vehicle that flipped to its side while maneuvering a downward slope in Calinog, Iloilo, according to a "Saksi" report by Russel Simorio of GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon on Friday.
The driver, identified as Jose Javier, lost control of the truck's brake as he made his way along the downward slope.
“Nang nawalan ng preno, inattempt ng driver na isandal sa gilid ng kalsada [ang truck] ngunit tumagilid dahil mayroong kanal,” said Calinog Police chief Police Major Fernand Limbungan.
(When the brakes loosened, the driver attempted to veer [the truck] to the side of the road but it titled to its side because there was a canal.)
Emergency responders rushed to the site of the accident, but Javier died due to injuries sustained in the head and chest. His companion, a safety officer sustained minor injuries.
He was working as a contractor for the construction of a dam in Kalinaw, which is part of the Jalaur River Multi-purpose project Stage II under the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
The NIA, in a statement, said that they are coordinating with the contractor regarding assistance the agency may extend to Javier’s family and have ordered a probe on the incident.
“The PMO implores the public to continue praying for the safety and welfare of the people who are diligently working to implement the project,” read the statement. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/BAP, GMA Integrated News
