NDRRMC: 16,261 evacuees still at centers after Mindanao floods, landslides

A total of 16,261 individuals remained in 73 evacuation centers in the Davao and Caraga Regions following the flooding and landslides in Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC also reported that 273,543 people, or 91,843 families, had sought temporary shelter outside of evacuation centers.

The floods and landslides affected 1.5 million people in 881 barangays in Northern Mindanao, the Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and BARMM.

The Department of Agriculture recorded P558.3 million in damage, affecting 19,071 farmers and fishermen.

The National Irrigation Administration reported P454.6 million worth of damage in the Davao Region alone.

The damage to infrastructure, meanwhile, stood at P827.1 million.

There were 1,762 houses damaged due to the disasters - 1,011 houses partially damaged and 751 totally damaged.

Eighty roads and 16 bridges remained impassable in various parts of the Davao Region and Caraga.

The NDRRMC said a total of P254,911,720 worth of assistance had been provided to affected residents. The assistance included family food packs, water, hygiene kits, medical supplies, modular tents, and sleeping kits.

The floods and landslides were caused by the combined effects of the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) and the trough of a now dissipated low-pressure area which ravaged Mindanao from January 28 to February 3. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
