PCG recovers body of fisherman who drowned in Mati City

The body of a fisherman who drowned in the waters of Mati City in Davao Oriental over the weekend has been recovered by the Philippine Coast Guard.

According to a statement from the PCG on Tuesday, the victim drowned during a fishing expedition off the coast of Barangay Dawan to a fish cage with his wife and daughter on Black Saturday.

The victim’s wife said that he jumped into the water and failed to retrieve his unsecured boat from drifting away due to strong winds and currents. Unfortunately he was unable to return to the cage due to the prevailing conditions.

The body has since been returned to the victim’s family.—RF, GMA Integrated News
