Two dead, 21 injured as overloaded passenger van flips over in Cebu’s CCLEX

Two persons died while 21 others were injured after an allegedly overloaded passenger van in Cebu flipped over several times along the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) on Saturday.

In a 24 Oras Weekend report by Fe Marie Dumaboc of GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak, dashcam footage from another vehicle showed the white van overtake it just before its rear left tire blew in a cloud of smoke.

The van lost control and flipped over several times. Many passengers were thrown out in the process.

Passing motorists and first responders rendered assistance to the victims.

Cordova police said two of the passengers, a two-year old child and a woman in her 40s-50s were killed instantly.

Rescuers rushed 21 injured people, including the van driver, to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

Police said the van's possibly overloaded condition could have contributed to the mishap.—RF, GMA Integrated News
