Marijuana worth P862M destroyed in Kalinga — PNP

Authorities destroyed a total of nearly P862 million worth of marijuana in their nine-day operation in Kalinga, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“Tuloy-tuloy yung kampanya natin against illegal drugs. Tama po ito that includes our marijuana eradication (Our campaign against illegal drugs continues. This is correct, that includes our marijuana eradication),” PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said at a press briefing on Thursday.

The uprooting and burning of marijuana plants were conducted on Mount Chumanchil in Barangay Loccong and Barangay Buscalan in Tinglayan, Kalinga, the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) said in a statement on Wednesday.

The PDEG said the marijuana plantation has a land area of 195,100 square meters, where 3,349,500 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants and 1,575 kilograms of dried marijuana leaves were seized.

“The destruction of these plants not only disrupted the supply chain but also served as a deterrent to potential cultivators, signaling the risks associated with such illicit endeavors,” PDEG said.

Other agencies who took part in the operation were the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Army, and Philippine Air Force. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
