Arroyo to visit Mindoro to check food distribution program

SAN JOSE CITY, Occidental Mindoro - President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is set to visit the island of Mindoro, the rice granary of southern Luzon, on Wednesday as part of her provincial trips to check on the status of the government's programs and projects to improve food distribution. The President will inspect the 20,000 bags of rice and palay stocks at the National Food Authority in Barangay San Roque I, this city. NFA provincial manager Edward Damian said the bags are part of Occidental Mindoro's rice stock for 250 days. Damian said the NFA office here has four dryers with a capacity of 120 sacks of palay each per day. Damian said Occidental Mindoro produces some three million bags of palay (350,000 metric tons) every year, which the province supplies to Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan and Panay Island. - OPS/GMANews.TV
