DOTr mulls relocation of Dumaguete, Siargao, Zamboanga, Masbate airports

The Department of Transportation is looking at relocating some “congested” regional airports in the southern Philippines.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is looking at relocating some “congested” regional airports in the southern Philippines.

In a chance interview with reporters, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista revealed that the DOTr identified the airports in Zamboanga, Dumaguete, Siargao, and Masbate as those being studied for possible relocation.

“We have identified the areas… where it will be relocated… so slowly, the government is buying the properties. It will take some time,” Bautista said.

“There are agencies or countries that are willing to finance or extend the financing to complete these airports,” the Transport chief said.

Bautista, however, admitted that relocating four airports will take time.

“The acquisition [of land], it will take some time,” the Cabinet official said. --VAL, GMA Integrated News
