PHIVOLCS: 37 volcanic earthquakes recorded in Kanlaon
Thirty-seven volcanic earthquakes have been recorded in Kanlaon Volcano in the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said on Monday.
In its latest bulletin, PHIVOLCS said these volcanic earthquakes were recorded from 12 a.m. on Sunday to 12 a.m. on Monday.
The volcano, which is located in Negros Island, emitted 2,003 tonnes of sulfur dioxide on Sunday, according to PHIVOLCS.
A moderate emission of plume of up to 300 meters tall was also observed from the volcano and drifted northeast.
The edifice of Kanlaon Volcano is inflated, according to PHIVOLCS.
Alert Level 1 remained over the volcano, which means there is a low-level unrest.
Under Alert Level 1, PHIVOLCS said sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may occur.
Due to this, it is prohibited to enter into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and fly any aircraft close to the volcano. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
