97 kilos of spoiled meat, fish products seized in Baguio City

Authorities have seized 97.13 kilos of spoiled meat and fish products in "talipapa" or satellite markets in Baguio City.

In spot inspections conducted in barangays San Vicente, Kias, Loakan, and Camp 7, authorities found that the spoiled meat and fish products were unfit for human consumption due to mishandling, according to a Facebook post of the Baguio City Public Information Office on Sunday.

The spoiled goods were disposed at the Baguio City Veterinary and Agriculture Office.

Authorities also confiscated two of the 46 inspected weighing scales for being defective.

Violators of Republic Act 9296 or the Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines may face a fine of not less than P100,000 but not more than P1 million.

Meanwhile, those found violating zoning requirements, shop planning and design, electrical and lighting requirements, sanitation requirements, and solid waste management may be fined P1,000 to P5,000 and face business closure. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/KG, GMA Integrated News
