Kanlaon Volcano emits 4K tonnes of sulfur dioxide
The Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island released 4,023 tonnes of sulfur dioxide gas on Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Monday.
This amount was higher than the 2,302 tonnes of sulfur dioxide it released on Saturday, January 18.
Kanlaon Volcano also had three ash emission events, lasting for nine to 23 minutes.
Thirteen volcanic earthquakes, including two volcanic tremors were also recorded.
It also generated a moderate 150-meter tall plume which drifted southwest. The volcano’s edifice also remained inflated.
PHIVOLCS earlier released time-lapse footage of ash emission from the Kanlaon Volcano’s summit crater recorded from 1:30 a.m. to 1:39 a.m. and 8:24 a.m. to 8:43 a.m. on Sunday.

“These events generated superheated and grayish plumes that rose 150 meters above the crater before drifting southwest as recorded by Thermal Camera in Lower Masulog (VKLM) station and IP Cameras in Mansalanao, La Castellana (VKMN) station and Kanlaon Volcano Observatory in Canlaon City,” PHIVOLCS said.
