PHIVOLCS: 22 volcanic earthquakes recorded within 24 hours in Kanlaon volcano

At least 22 volcanic earthquakes, including three volcanic tremors that lasted between eight to 31 minutes long occurred in Mount Kanlaon within the 24-hour monitoring by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The agency also recorded three ash emissions that lasted between five to 44 minutes long, up to 4,222 tonnes of Sulfur dioxide flux and 900 meters tall voluminous plume with continuous degassing with occasional ash emission moving in the southwest direction.

As to ground formation, the edifice of Mount Kanlaon remains inflated.

As of Tuesday, Alert Level 3 (intensified unrest/magmatic unrest) remains over Mount Kanlaon.

The following recommendations by PHIVOLCS remain, namely: evacuation with the 6-kilometer radius of the summit and flying near the volcano is still not allowed.

The following hazards may occur: sudden explosive eruption, lava flow or effusion, ashfall, pyroclastic density current (PDC), rockfall, and lahars during heavy rains. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
