Engineering teacher shot dead in Cotabato City — police
An engineer who also teaches in Notre Dame University was killed in a shooting incident in Cotabato City on Tuesday evening, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.
Based on a police report, 29-year-old Israel Abas Angas was on board a vehicle traversing the Notre Dame Avenue in Rosary Heights 3 when the suspects shot him several times.
“The victim sustained gunshot wounds on his left forearm and upper abdomen and was declared dead on arrival by his attending physician,” the police report said.
Recovered from the crime scene were 14 pieces of fired cartridge cases believed to be from caliber .45 and the victim’s vehicle.
PNP public information office acting chief Police Colonel Randulf Tuaño said authorities are looking into four suspects.
“According naman po kay [Police Regional Office 12 director Police Brigadier General Arnold Ardiente], meron po silang ongoing operations against four suspects po…Armed group din po,” he said in a press conference.

In a statement, the Notre Dame University condemned the killing of Angas as it called on authorities to solve the crime.
“This heinous act of violence is not only a grievous loss to our academic community but also an affront to the sanctity of life and the values of humanity we hold dear,” the school said.
“We call upon the authorities to act swiftly and decisively to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice. Let this not become another unresolved case in the growing list of senseless violence in our country,” it added.
